Today’s Blackout: A Call to Pause and Provoke Change

In a world where every swipe and click fuels the status quo, today we’re taking a bold stand. Yes, we’re a marketplace, and we believe in shopping Black and living green. But today, we’re asking you to pause. For just one day, you have the opportunity to make a statement that demands attention—a statement that declares your dollars are powerful.

Why We’re Doing This

On Friday, February 28th, from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM, we’re calling for a complete blackout:

  • No shopping. No spending. No swiping.
  • No Amazon. No Walmart. No McDonald’s. No major retailers.
  • Keep your dollars in your pocket—or spend only at small, local businesses if absolutely necessary. We would have to ship products, so no purchases from BLK + GRN are absolutely necessary.

This isn’t about abstaining for the sake of abstaining. It’s about reminding those in power that your choices matter. Every purchase is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in, and today, you’re casting a vote of refusal.

The Power of Collective Action

“Power concedes nothing without a demand.” Frederick Douglass’s words echo through history, and today they are our rallying cry. For 24 hours, when you hold back your spending, you’re not just skipping a transaction—you’re taking control. You’re showing that collective action can challenge the systems that often overlook the individual. If they ignore this statement, we’ll push even harder. One day can evolve into two, a ripple into a wave.

What This Means for You

This blackout is more than a day without commerce—it’s the beginning of a movement. By choosing to pause, you’re sending a powerful message: that your dollars are not mere currency, but instruments of change. Today is the day to stand firm and united. The impact of your collective decision will echo far beyond 24 hours, proving that when we unite, we can shape a future that is both sustainable and just.

This is only the beginning. The bigger the impact, the louder the message. Join us in making history—one pause at a time.
