Article: Why should you support Kamala Harris?

Why should you support Kamala Harris?

  1. Health and Wellness Advocacy
Kamala Harris has consistently supported policies that address health inequities in marginalized communities, with a particular focus on reducing racial health disparities. She has championed initiatives aimed at improving maternal health and combating the disproportionately high maternal mortality rates among Black women. This focus on health equity aligns with BLK + GRN’s commitment to holistic health and wellness. By prioritizing the unique health needs of Black women, Harris’s advocacy reflects BLK + GRN’s mission of providing access to non-toxic, health-conscious products that empower Black women to live healthier lives and make informed wellness choices for themselves and their families.
  2. Economic Empowerment
Economic empowerment is another area where Harris’s policies align closely with BLK + GRN’s mission. Harris has been an advocate for increasing access to capital and business opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, understanding that economic growth in marginalized communities is essential to breaking the cycle of systemic inequality. Her support for initiatives such as Black entrepreneurship programs and funding for minority-owned businesses directly complements BLK + GRN’s dedication to supporting Black artisans and small business owners. Together, these efforts contribute to building sustainable wealth within the Black community and ensuring that Black-owned brands are empowered to succeed in the marketplace.
  3. Environmental Justice
Harris has long been an advocate for environmental justice, working on policies that address pollution and environmental hazards disproportionately affecting underserved communities. Her commitment to climate resilience and sustainability aligns with BLK + GRN’s values, as the company emphasizes eco-friendly and natural products that prioritize both personal and environmental health. BLK + GRN’s dedication to reducing toxic exposure through non-toxic, sustainable products is a natural fit with Harris’s efforts to protect vulnerable communities from environmental harm, advancing the shared goal of a healthier, more resilient future for all.
  4. Social Equity and Justice
With her background as a former Attorney General and Senator, Harris has been a proponent of criminal justice reform, supporting measures that address racial and gender inequities within the justice system. Her advocacy for social justice and anti-discrimination aligns with BLK + GRN’s mission of empowering Black-owned businesses and providing equitable opportunities for Black women in wellness and entrepreneurship. By reducing barriers and championing equity, Harris’s work in social justice resonates with BLK + GRN’s efforts to support Black women’s voices, wellness, and economic self-determination.
  5. Small Businesses Fuel Local Economies
Small businesses play an irreplaceable role in local economies. Every dollar spent at a local business often circulates within the community, supporting other local services, creating jobs, and uplifting nearby communities. Black-owned businesses, in particular, often face systemic challenges and underfunding, and yet they are a crucial driver of employment in Black communities. The ripple effect of each successful small business is far-reaching and vital for local economic health.
  6. Supporting Innovation and Diversity of Thought
Small businesses bring unique products and ideas to the table, often filling gaps overlooked by larger corporations. Within the BLK + GRN community, for example, artisans, wellness experts, and health advocates come together to create non-toxic, wellness-oriented products tailored to the needs and preferences of Black consumers. Supporting these entrepreneurs means more innovation and diverse ideas in our markets, offering consumers products that better reflect and serve their needs.
  7. Addressing Systemic Challenges Facing Black-Owned Small Businesses                                                                    Historically, Black-owned businesses have faced unique challenges in the form of limited access to capital, higher interest rates on loans, and unequal access to commercial spaces and resources. These hurdles make it difficult for even the most promising small businesses to thrive. By advocating for policies that promote equitable access to resources, funding, and opportunities, we can address these systemic challenges head-on, giving Black entrepreneurs the fair playing field they deserve.
  8. Public Policy Can Support Growthn                                   When policies prioritize equitable funding and access to resources for small businesses, especially those in underrepresented communities, we see growth and sustainability. Initiatives like low-interest loan programs, grants for minority-owned businesses, and tax incentives are all crucial for giving small businesses the boost they need. Such policies don’t just benefit individual businesses—they create a stronger, more resilient economy. At BLK + GRN, we’ve seen firsthand how access to support and resources can change a business’s trajectory, allowing artisans and entrepreneurs to succeed and give back to their communities
  9. Small Businesses are Catalysts for Community Identity and Pride                                                                                           For many, small businesses are more than just places to shop—they are pillars of identity, gathering spaces, and symbols of local pride. When Black-owned businesses succeed, they foster a sense of empowerment and identity within their communities. This pride inspires other entrepreneurs, builds a strong sense of community, and sets a foundation for future generations to believe in the power of their contributions.
