Hello World!
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step" - Lao Tzu
This blog will be a journey. My journey to adopting a fit, happy, and healthy lifestyle. I hope you enjoy the ride!
In the 2nd grade I saw the movie Babe, and it essentially changed my life. After falling in love with Babe, the cute little talking pig, I was heart broken to think that he would become food. Possibly MY food. So I cut red meat out of my diet - this was my little minds response to thinking about Babe and his friends dying so that I could eat some bacon. I wanted no parts of it. (For some reason I had less compassion for the chickens and turkeys, but I digress).
So I declared that I would no longer be eating red meat. No bacon. No sausage. No burgers. No Spaghetti. I know, I know... spaghetti doesn't have to be made with red meat, but I grew up in the American South (aka Arkansas) and my mom had no intentions on changing what she cooked. When I was a young girl, spaghetti was made with ground chuck (I'm guessing that was some form of beef). So on spaghetti night, I was eating breadsticks and cinnamon toast crunch. (I know, we can talk about my childhood diet more). I still remember sitting at the kitchen table at my Nana's house, and having all of my cousins wave bacon in my face, trying to tempt me to break. But I wouldn't, I simply couldn't. But I did, three years later. And as a matter of fact, I am sure I just ate a piece of bacon yesterday.
This was the first time I realized that I had control over what I wanted to eat. Too bad it took nearly 10 years later for me to be more thoughtful about what I put in my body. And this is where the journey begins.
